Built around your responsibilities

Keep the class moving, and the records with it.

The work around teaching should help you understand your class. SMS brings the register, timetable and assessment records into a more organised routine.

01

Take a register you can trust later.

Record the attendance of the classes you are responsible for with the date, student statuses and useful remarks together. A default-looking row is not a substitute for checking the class.

  • Review before saving.

Choose the class, section and school day, then review present, absent and late statuses. Bulk marking helps with a whole class, while individual remarks keep an exception understandable.

  • Know what has already been recorded.

The date picker marks days whose registers were taken. A saved register opens locked; choose Edit when you need to correct it, rather than accidentally changing an existing record.

  • Work with the school’s actual days.

The register follows the current term, school weekends and holidays. Future dates and non-school days are not accepted, helping keep the record tied to a real school day.

You can return to a clear attendance record when the school needs to understand a student’s absence or presence.

See whether your assigned classes are up to date.

Attendance compliance helps you follow the completion of your own class registers, not only the number of children present. It gives you a way to catch a missed recording task before it becomes a pattern.

  • Check your classes across the school week.

The teacher view of attendance compliance is scoped to your classes. Completed and missing school-day registers are shown separately, with consecutive unmarked days made visible.

  • Act on an unfinished register.

Catch Up can point you towards attendance that is still missing during the school day. Open the relevant register and complete the work while the day is still fresh.

  • Use reports for a different question.

Completion tells you whether the register was taken. The attendance reports available to your role tell you about the student’s attendance record, including the term’s day-by-day picture and percentage.

You can keep the recording task up to date and use the actual attendance history when a student needs follow-up.

Build assessment records that can become useful reports.

Enter assessment information in the structure the school has prepared. Your class and subject assignments and the permissions your school grants shape the work you can carry out.

  • Keep scores with the right context.

Work with the relevant exam, class, section and subject so each score belongs to the correct assessment. Use the school’s mark components and assessment arrangements rather than creating another disconnected score sheet.

  • Record more than a total where the school uses it.

Supported assessment work includes comments and skills, while junior assessment can capture developmental observations. These help the school’s reporting process describe more of a child’s progress.

  • Review imported CBT marks before relying on them.

For schools using the Surepass integration, authorised staff review student and score mappings before bringing supported marks into SMS. School CBT examinations run on the school’s local Surepass setup.

The school can prepare reports from a more consistent set of assessment records.

Know which class and lesson need you next.

Use your teacher workspace to find the day’s teaching responsibilities and the information available to your role, without having to work through the entire school’s administration.

  • Follow your timetable.

View the lessons and class responsibilities assigned to you. The school’s timetable and academic setup provide the shared reference for your day.

  • Return to the work that needs attention.

The teacher dashboard and permission-aware Catch Up bring useful context and outstanding tasks into reach. Follow the items available to your role instead of depending on memory alone.

  • Make frequent tasks easy to find.

Search, focus spaces and personal sidebar arrangement help you reach the records and tools you use often. Personal preferences let you shape the working environment around your routine.

Less time is spent finding the right place before you can begin the classroom work.

Handle your own staff requests through the school’s process.

Your teaching role is also a staff role. Where the school grants access, use the supported request process for leave while keeping school finances outside your teaching workspace.

  • Apply with the details the school needs.

Choose a leave category available to your role, enter the dates and reason, and attach a supporting document when needed. The request is checked against the remaining allowance and overlapping dates.

  • Keep pending requests clear.

A pending leave request can be withdrawn. The school’s authorised staff make the approval or rejection decision, which remains part of the leave record.

  • Keep classroom and financial access separate.

The built-in Teacher role does not receive money-area access. Your teaching assignments and granted permissions determine your records and actions; a financial responsibility needs an appropriate staff role.

Your request reaches the right decision makers without mixing teaching access with school finances.

Thoughtful safeguards

A workspace built around teaching.

Teacher access focuses on classroom responsibilities. School financial records are kept outside the teacher role, and the permissions your school grants determine the work you can carry out.
