Approvals

Some decisions need more than one name.

An approval rule turns a sensitive action into a request that waits until each level you set has agreed.

A fictional request: it waits for each level, then runs with the balance as it stands.

Approval rules

A chain of approvers, in order.

Turn a rule on for an action and set its levels. Each level is held by a role or by one named person.

  • Starting with fee write-offs. Writing off fees is the action rules can hold today. Someone allowed to write off fees still waits for the chain.

  • The owner is never held up. The school owner’s own actions go straight through, and the owner may approve at any level. That is recorded as an override.

  • No skipped steps. A requester who holds a level approves it as a separate, recorded step.

The approvals inbox

Waiting on me. My requests. Decided.

Each request shows the whole chain, who has signed and who is still to come.

  • Approve or refuse. Any level may refuse, which ends the request.

Fictional requests approved or refused at one level.

The result

What actually happened, in words.

Approved requests show what ran, because it can differ from what was asked.

  • Up to date at the moment it runs. If a parent paid part of a balance while a write-off waited, only what was still owed is written off.

A fictional result: only the balance still owed was written off.
