Account security
Quick to unlock, hard to get into.
Each person looks after their own sign-in: a PIN for their computer, a way back in if they forget it, and the devices they trust.
PIN
Four digits to get back to work.
A four-digit PIN unlocks your computer without typing your full password. To change it, confirm with your current PIN or your password.
Locks when you step away. Choose in your preferences how long SMS waits before locking the screen.
The lock screen
Locked, not signed out.
When the screen locks, your session stays open behind it. The lock screen shows the time, the date, your name and photo, and your unread notices if you allow it. Enter your PIN and you are back on the page you left.
A wrong PIN is obvious. The PIN panel shakes when a PIN is refused, so a typo is noticed straight away.
Getting back in
A way back if you forget.
Three security questions are how a forgotten PIN is reset on the computer itself. Where a PIN is required, SMS asks you to set them up straight away.
Your password first. Changing your security questions asks for your password before anything is shown.
Devices and sign-in
Your devices, your password, your name.
See the devices you have trusted and remove one you no longer use. Change your password and, where your role allows, your username.
Your own lock screen. Once you have a PIN, choose the lock screen’s background: the default, one photo, or a slideshow.
A PIN unlocks a session on a computer you are already signed in on. On a shared computer, set a short lock time in your preferences and turn off lock-screen notifications.
Reset it with your account password or your security questions.
Look after your own sign-in.
