### Which SMS edition should I download?
Choose Individual for an employee’s own computer with offline work and syncing to Academium Cloud portal, a school server, or both. Choose Client for employees using school computers with an existing SMS server. To run SMS from an on-site school server, choose Windows Server or Linux Server.
### How does SMS Individual connect to my school?
SMS Individual is a personal offline app for school employees. It can sync to Academium Cloud portal, your school’s on-site server, or both. When you use both, you can sync to the school server at school and to Academium Cloud portal when you are away.
### How does SMS Client find my school’s server?
Connect the computer to your school’s network and open the app. It automatically finds your school’s SMS server, ready for you to sign in with your school account. There is no manual server setup or selection to complete.
### How do I get my school started with SMS Server?
Open the app and choose to set up a school, try a demo, or start in free mode. Setup takes a few clicks, with on-screen steps your school administrator can follow.
### Do I need to download Client and Individual separately?
No. Both Windows Server and Linux Server editions include the Client and Individual apps. After setting up your school server, use its local download links to install those apps on your other computers.
### Can our school use SMS without an internet connection?
Yes. The Server editions run SMS from an offline-first, on-site school server. Computers using Client connect over your school’s network, so the school can keep using SMS without relying on an internet connection.
### Which computers can use these editions?
The Windows editions support Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 (64-bit). The Linux editions are available for Debian or Ubuntu computers. These desktop downloads are for Windows and Linux; if you are browsing on a Mac, phone or tablet, choose the computer you will install on.
