A backup your school can use.

A schedule is a start. The location, retained copies and restore process matter just as much.

Start with a separate copy

A school server holds records that people depend on every day. A backup gives you a saved point to return to if you need to replace the computer or recover from a problem.

Keeping the only backup on the same drive as the live database leaves both exposed to the same drive failure. Use another drive or a suitable external backup location and check that it remains available.

Choose a schedule and history

The SMS and Surepass server backup controls let administrators set a schedule and retained history. Choose a frequency that reflects how much new school work is entered and how much you could afford to re-enter after recovery.

Review available storage and the latest saved copies. A configured schedule needs a working server and an accessible backup location. Server warnings can help you notice missing backups and storage problems.

Keep recovery access available

The documented school-server backups encrypt records and uploaded files and tie recovery to the school’s linked account identity. Protect access to that account and keep recovery information with an authorised person.

Cloud copies are a separate configured service and vary by product and edition. Check what your server actually shows rather than assuming a local backup has also been uploaded.

Understand what restore changes

Restore replaces the server’s current records with a saved copy. Work entered after the chosen backup is outside that saved point. Review the selected copy and the product’s restore warning carefully.

Before a server move or significant change, create a fresh backup and confirm where it is stored. The Help Center gives the product-specific steps for creating and restoring it.
